Application procedure

The application procedure is simple!

  • Just fill in the application form that is available at the main campus in Kanungu and submit it to the Academic Registrar at the main campus in Kanungu or email it to ar@greatlakesuni.ac.ug
  • The application form can also be accessed on the website for downloading or for direct application on-line.

    Minimum admission requirements

    • A bachelor’s degree: At least two principal passes at Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least 5 passes or diploma with at least a credit from a recognized institution.
    • An ordinary diploma: Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least 1 principal pass and two subsidiaries obtained at the same sitting or its equivalent and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least 5 passes.
    • An ordinary certificate: Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least 3 passes obtained at the same sitting.


    Fees structure

    A) Tuition fees

    The current tuition fees per semester is given as follows:

    • Ushs679,000 for a degree programme
    • Ushs349,000 for a diploma programme
    • Ushs259,000 for a certificate programme

    B) Function-specific or programme-specific fees in Ushs

    01 Admission fees payable by all first year students only once per programme 20,000
    02 Identity card fees payable by all first year students only once per programme 20,000
    03 National Council for Higher Education fees payable by each student only once per year 20,000
    04 Science practical fees payable by Agriculture & Science students per semester 50,000
    05 Catering practical fees payable by Tourism & Hotel Management students per semester 50,000
    06 Internship fees payable by all degree, diploma & certificate students in year 2 semester 1 except for education students 60,000
    07 Teaching practice fees by education students in year 2 & 3 for degrees; year 1 & 2 for diplomas and certificates 100,000
    08 Research Support payable by
    i) All degree students in year 3 100,000
    ii) All diploma students in year 2 40,000
    09 Students who wish to be accommodated by the University and have their meals in the dining hall will pay as follows:
    i) Hostel accommodation per semester 130,000
    ii) Meals per semester 200,000

    Note: Fees and other charges are subject to change at short notice.

    Fees structure

    Any qualified applicant for admission qualifies to compete for a limited number of the Chancellor’s entrepreneurs’ scholarships.

    Future Science Teachers’ Loan Fund

    The Schendels have introduced a “Future Teachers Loan Fund” to support academically high-performing students, but who cannot afford university fees, to study science education at Great Lakes Regional University.

    Intakes: March, June, August

    You may apply to join the University in the regular intakes in March, June and August of every year. However, in-service programmes of study for teachers start during the school holidays in January and May every year.

    Student accommodation

    University students may apply to reside on campus in the female and male hostels. Students also opt to become non-residents and lave in rooms within the vicinity of the University campus.
